You just finished a complete bathroom remodeling project.  Congratulations!  Now that you are not totally consumed with tile, tubs, paint colors, and shower heads you can actually move on to enjoying your new bathroom.  Not so fast…..it’s important to remember to maintain your newly designed space so it will hold its value and its special place in your heart for years to come.  Following these helpful tips will ensure that your new bathroom looks just as new 10 years from now.

keep your bathroom looking new

Know What Cleaning Products To Use:

Your bathroom is made up of many different surfaces and materials.  From ceramic tile to glass to porcelain, there is a wide array, which also leads to a multitude of cleaning products needed.  Your certified bathroom designer at Dream Baths will be able to educate you on which products are safe for your various bathroom surfaces.  Simply using a “one-size-fits-all” cleaning product on everything may not be the best approach, as you can actually damage your surfaces if you use a cleaner that is too abrasive or harsh.

Natural Cleaning Products:

You may decide against standard cleaning products altogether, particularly if you are concerned about the harsh chemicals’ effects on the health of your family and on the environment.  There are many natural cleaning alternatives that can also be more kind to your new bathroom surfaces.  For example, try baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to clean grout lines instead of a grout cleaner.  Also, vinegar can be used to loosen the dirt around shower doors and a 50/50 vinegar/water mixture can be a great glass cleaner.

Don’t Delay Bathroom Cleaning:

Although no one likes to clean the bathroom, it is a necessary evil that, if done routinely, does not have to be painful.  If you follow a quick daily care routine in your bathroom, that can avoid a lengthy deep clean down the road.  Showerheads should be cleaned regularly.  Be sure to check with your designer to determine which type of cleaner is best for your fixture.  A glass shower door should be cleaned almost daily to avoid soap scum buildup. If possible, dry shower doors after each use with an old t-shirt or microfiber cloth.  Tub, tile, and floor surfaces should also be cleaned weekly (or more often) as well.  A quick wipe down of all surfaces on a daily basis will go a long way to maintaining that fresh, clean look of your new bathroom.

Storage, Caddies, and Organizers:

Nothing tarnishes the look of a newly remodeled space like clutter.  By utilizing storage solutions and keeping products and other clutter off of visible surfaces, you will help to maintain the crisp look of a remodeled bathroom.  Dream Baths strives to incorporate innovative and usable storage into our bathroom designs, so use it!  A recessed medicine cabinet or vanity cabinet, for example, should be used to store away daily products such as toothpaste, shaving cream, lotion, etc.  Having a clean countertop free of clutter will keep your bathroom looking pristine.

A Clean Cut Sink:

Bar soap at the bathroom counter is a mess.  Even if it is in a beautiful soap dish, it still leaves a slimy scum behind that makes your bathroom look disordered.  Instead, opt for a soap dispenser with liquid soap for an easy fix that will go a long way in keeping your bathroom design meticulous.

You should thoroughly enjoy your bathroom remodel.  Hopefully, it has created a sanctuary in your home for relaxation and unwinding.  However, no sanctuary ever comes with clutter, dirt, or soap scum.  Keep those things out by following the easy tips above.  Dream Baths wants your new bathroom remodel to be as dreamy as possible for as long as possible!
