The owner of this Columbus, OH home loved his home, but wanted the master bath remodeled to reflect his tastes and to update the space. He liked the traditional style of the older home, but knew the bathroom looked dated and could use more light. The owner went to the Best of Fall Home Show and met with Al Deen of Dream Baths.
Deen recalled the owner liked the layout of the bath, but understood that the space felt small and had potential to feel larger. The current vanity had a white top that blended into the walls. Also, the mirror ran the length of the vanity making the space feel smaller. The tub was tiled around the top with white porcelain tile and a stained wood front. The contrast made the space feel smaller. The shower had a silver framed sliding door and a white surround. The sliding shower door also made the space feel smaller, and the white surround blended with the walls.
Deen asked the owner what style would he like the new master bath to have. He chose the traditional style to tie the space into the other rooms in the house. He also wanted to have clean lines and a simple design. Deen put pencil to paper and quickly came up with a design that tied the traditional look into his wish list.
The vanity cabinet was replaced with a darker hickory cabinet and topped with granite that picked up on the oil rubbed bronze faucet and mirror frame. A shorter mirror was used to add contrast. Deen kept the tub and re-tiled the tub deck and front with the same tile. Tile was also added to the walls which made more of a statement. The continuity of the tile made the tub space feel larger. The shower was tiled with 13X13 tiles and a hinged frameless shower door was added. By opening the door, rather than sliding, the shower felt more open.
